Description: This icon pack actually only has one icon in it and comes in two flavours - blue and red. It is designed specifically for Mozilla Firefox, but it should work in Mozilla as well.

NOTE: If you are getting a black square instead of the icon, please try the Windows 98 ones. (links below) Many thanks to WoodStockJeff for very kindly providing these icons.

Install imageWindows: Install blue icon | Install red icon

Linux: Install blue icon | Install red icon

Windows 98: Install blue icon | Install red icon

Click on the install link above to install. All newly opened windows will use the icon pack when it has installed. To uninstall, click here or use the uninstall link at the top right on any page of this website. If you encounter any problems, see the F.A.Q. or post a message below.

To change your Start Menu icons in Windows, including the 'Internet' entry in Windows XP, check out the Windows integration tutorial.

The icons do open in Irfan View; albeit this doesn't help with the actual firefox icon.

Ok, I found away for Windows 98 users to get the icon to work:

In Irfan View save the image as a *.bmp file.
Then go into Paint Shop or MS Paint and save as a *.ico file.
(The file should be displayed as the icon in explorer)

You can then use this as your desktop icon or follow the instructions on Firefox Help: Tips & Tricks to change the window icon

That's how I did it. Over and out.

OK,

Win98SE users, I fiddled around with the icons enough to get them to be visible. The only size I could get to work was 32x32, which works fine even as the main-window.ico.
Drawback #1-- removing the black background isn't 100%, you can see a touch of black around the edges, so they don't look as nice.
Drawback #2-- leaving the black background means there is a black square around it, but they do look nice.

When used as the main-window.ico, the ones with a black square look best.

Anyway, I'm not too swift on icons, so it's the best I could do.

If anybody is interested, contact me through the Mozillazine (WoodstockJeff). Or maybe I should just post them on a website? Whatever. I'll just check back here for suggestions on what to do with them.

Update for those of you with problems with this icon pack: there is now a repackaged version at http://www.outpostbravo.net/ff_forum/icons.zip (thanks to WoodstockJeff above :-) . I will try to get them into an XPI file as soon as possible for you, but would like to know if they work for all of you first. Also, there are several different versions of the icon in this file, so please let me know which one to use. (I don't have access to windows 98) To install:
1. Download the icons.zip file
2. Open it with your favourite compression program
3. Find the icon in there that you want, and extract it to /chrome/icons/default
4. Rename it to main-window.ico
5. Now extract the same icon again, and this time rename it to default.ico . You should now have 2 icons which are identical except with different names - main-window.ico and default.ico . Firefox should start using them immediately in any new windows that you open.
Please let me know if they are OK + which to use.

I had same problem with black icons, using Windows ME.
Have downloaded icons.zip as per post [50] - 12Dec2004. Works fine. I'd prefer to use the transparent icons *_trans.ico, though they're not as smooth and neat as image1/2.ico. However, the image icons look fine on the Task Bar, but seem a tiny bit too tall for the Title Bar.
Many thanks for the effort!

I don't know how to use them. They are a firefox extension, right? When I download them and restart firefox, nothing happens. What are they supposed to do?

Yes they are an extension, though they won't appear in the list in the extensions window. Click on install link on this page, if you haven't allowed this site to install extensions, do so (yellow bar will appear at top of page), then click install link again, install, and all newly opened Firefox windows will have your new icon as the window icon.

Where can I get the 256x256 icons? The ones that install are too small and when used in a dock get too pixelated.

I "installed" the red - linux icon but nothing happened afterwards. Where should I check the existence of the icons? What can I do to change the FireFox icons?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Re: post #74
On Linux, you have to be running Firefox as root in order for the icons to be installed. Also, only newly-opened windows will have the icon. There's a complete list of things to check on the F.A.Q. (link at the top of this page.)

That's because you're using Opera. Use a Mozilla-based browser such as Firefox.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080207 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.12

Best viewed with Firefox. Haven't got it yet? Well get it now!
