re: comment #1 - linspire has odd privilege settings (with regards to the root user), but check that there aren't any files in the /chrome/icons/default folder afterwards, and try again - there may have been a mirror problem when you tried.

Same problem on MEPIS 3.3.1. I think it's probably something to do with the Linux/BSD versions of firefox.

re: comment #10 . I have no idea why this could be happening. To install this icon pack manually, right-click the install link at the top of this page, save link as, and save the file somewhere. Then open it using a compression utility (eg. 'ark' if you're using KDE). Extract the 'default' folder inside to your Firefox chrome folder, for example, /usr/local/firefox/chrome or /usr/share/firefox/chrome or wherever it is. Note you'll very probably need to be logged in as root to do this, so run your compression utility as root, using an utility like 'kdesu' or from a terminal after becoming root using 'su'.
If you could let me know here if that works, it would be very helpful for sorting this problem out. Also, could you first try installing another icon pack on this website just by clicking and let me know if that works or if you get the same error message? Many thanks.

* just a clarification - you will then have a folder called 'default' stored inside your chrome folder, ie. /usr/local/firefox/chrome/default

to the person getting the install canceling on them.. right click it save target as.. open it as a .tar archive with file roller/ark.. pic the icon you want out of the archive, extract it to a directory or your pixmap directory, go to pref's on your firefox launcher, click icon, and browse for the file

re: comment#11
thanks for posting that, but I found your instructions needs a few corrections. here is what I did:
1. I downloaded the package, which contains a java file and three icon files: default.png, default16.png, and default.ico.
2. I extracted the three icon files to my Firefox chrome/icons/default folder. (For me this was /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/chrome/icons/default/)
3. I renamed default.png to default.xpm and restarted Firefox.this differs slightly from yours -- you mention a default folder in the icon pack, which doesn't seem to exist. you instruct us to extract to just the chrome folder, but I think it needs to be chrome/icons/default. and you did not mention renaming the file at all, which I found to be necessary.
